Topic 1 concerns the 12/02/2015 occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge (federal property) in Oregon by a militia group. The FBI and other authorities arrested numerous followers and killed one. Arrested were Ammon Bundy, Ryan Bundy, Brian Cavalier, Shawna Cox and Ryan Payne. Others arrested were Joseph Arthur Stetson, Joseph Donald O’Shaughnessy, Duane Leo Ehmer, Dylan Wade Anderson and Jason S. Patrick. Shot and killed was Robert “LaVoy” Finicum. Quoted in the article is FBI Special Agent in Charge Greg Bretzing.

Topic 2 concerns two pending bills in the Washington state legislature that would change the deadly force statute. House Bill 2907 is sponsored by Rep. Luis Moscoso and House Bill 2908 is being sponsored by Rep. Cindy Ryu. Both bills are reportedly a response to pressure from the Black Alliance of Thurston County because Olympia police officer Ryan Donald was not charged by the Thurston County Prosecutor’s Office in the shooting of brothers Andre Thompson and Bryson Chaplin. Black Alliance co-founder Karen Johnson is quoted in the article.

Topic 3 concerns the FBI’s decision to switch from .40 caliber Smith & Wesson pistols to 9mm pistols and ammo. This move is expected to affect law enforcement agencies across the country. The referenced article was written by Sydney Vail, M.D. and highlights Stopping Power, Measurements (Diameter, Velocity and Expansion), Rounds in the Magazine and Limitations of Ballistic Gel.
