Topic 1 concerns criticism of Beyonce Knowles’ new music video and Super Bowl halftime performance. Beyonce jumped on the Black Lives Matter bandwagon and used strong anti-police themes and imagery into “Formation”. The words “Stop Shooting Us” were also shown spray painted on a brick wall. After Beyonce’s Black Panther themed performance, her backup dancers called for justice for Mario Woods who was killed by police after stabbing someone and refusing to drop a knife.

Topic 2 concerns statistical findings by Dr. Richard Johnson based off of FBI homicide reports on black males from 2009 – 2012. An average of 4,472 black males were killed every year by other black males while only an average of 112 black males were killed by police during that same time frame. In other words, 2.5 percent of black male deaths during that time frame were due to police while 97.5 percent of black homicide victims were killed by other blacks. Quoted in the article is FBI Director James Comey and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
