Topic 1 concerns an article written by Andrea Noble and published on WASHINGTONTIMES.COM. It details how manslaughter charges against law enforcement officers significantly increased after fatal shootings in 2015. The story also quotes Bowling Green State University criminologist Philip Stinson and National Association of Police Organizations Executive Director William Johnson.
Topic 2 concerns an article appearing on BALTIMORESUN.COM titled Holding Police Accountable. It cites Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake supporting policy changes that would hold law enforcement officers more accountable. Reference is made to the Freddie Gray case in Baltimore and an attack on Maryland’s Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights. The Maryland Chiefs of Police Association and the Maryland Sheriffs Association are also supportive of the move.
Topic 3 concerns violent sovereign citizens in the U.S. and abroad. In the related article, written by Judy L. Thomas and published on KANSASCITY.COM, numerous examples are given of this network of individuals who believe that government is corrupt and out of control while they do not adhere to local, state or federal tax authority.
Topic 4 concerns an article on LEOAFFAIRS.COM where a militia group took over the headquarters of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge which is federal property. The move was made in protest of two Harney County ranchers (Dwight Hammond, Jr. and Steven Hammond) who were sentenced to prison. Ammon Bundy, Ryan Bundy and Ryan Payne, all representing the militia group, were quoted in the story. The Oregon State Police, Harney County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI are involved in the investigation.
