LEO Round Table is an internet based law enforcement talk show. This is episode 13, recorded on 01/25/2016, with the following on-air personalities: Chip DeBlock (Host), Luke Lirot (Attorney), Mark Hopper and Bret Bartlett. We produce two 30 minute shows each week that are normally released on our YouTube channel Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition to your host, the other panelists (except for attorney Luke Lirot) are retired or active law enforcement officers as well.

Topic 1 concerns agencies in Beaufort and Jasper counties (South Carolina) hiring officers who were fired from their prior agencies. Some of these LEOs were fired for lying and concealing information. This data was uncovered by The Island Packet and The Beaufort Gazette of South Carolina. Quoted in the article is Seattle University Criminal Justice Professor Matthew Hickman, University of South Carolina School of Law Assistant Professor Seth Stoughton and Jasper County Council Vice Chairman D. Thomas Johnson. Of note is the premise that underfunded agencies with low salaries cannot attract law enforcement officers without a blemished past.

Topic 2 concerns a bill being introduced by Florida Senator Geraldine Thompson (D-Orlando) that would require the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to investigate all deadly police involved shootings (in Florida). Quoted in the article is Attorney Eric Block (represents family of D’Angelo Stallworth) who wants police shooting investigations done by someone other than the police.

Topic 3 concerns a bill (H. 527) being introduced by Representative Martin LaLonde (D-South Burlington) that would allow law enforcement officer in Vermont to see a driver’s phone or other electronic device in order to determine if it was being used. If the driver refuses police access to his phone, he would receive the same penalty he would get if he was in fact texting. Also quoted is American Civil Liberties Union Vermont Chapter Executive Director Allen Gilbert and Bill Bohnyak (Vermont Sheriff’s Association President and Orange County Sheriff).
