Topic 1 concerns Florida’s STAND YOUR GROUND defense currently being used in a scheduled two week trial by retired Tampa Police Captain Curtis Reeves. Reeves (now 74) shot and killed Chad Oulson (43) during an altercation at the Cobb Grove 16 movie theater in Wesley Chapel, Florida. He was charged with Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery (Nicole Oulson, Chad’s wife, was also struck with the bullet). Panelist Attorney Don West provides an excellent breakdown and commentary on the case, pulling from his own experience in using Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” defense with George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. It should also be noted that a number of the panelists used to work with in law enforcement with Reeves. Judge Susan Barthle is presiding over the case. Assistant State Attorney Glenn Martin is prosecuting the case while attorneys Rick Escobar and Dino Michaels represent the defense.
