Topic 1 concerns local governments providing hazard pay and stipends for first responders due to the COVID-19 national emergency. The states implementing these measures so far are Alabama, Georgia, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi and Texas.
Topic 2 concerns New Jersey making it easier for departments to hire special officers and train military police since more than 500 officers statewide have tested positive for COVID-19.
Topic 3 concerns Carrollton (Texas) Police arresting 18-year-old Lorraine Maradiaga for making a terroristic threat (3rd degree felony) at a Walmart which she posted on Snapchat. She later posted another video as an apology.
Topic 4 concerns U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga introducing the Helping Emergency Responders Overcome Emergency Situations (a.k.a. HEROES Act of 2020) in the U.S. House of Representatives in order to create a federal tax holiday for individuals working to combat COVID-19. The act provides a 4-month federal income tax holiday and can be extended for up to 3 additional months by the Secretary of the Treasury.
