LEO Round Table is an internet based law enforcement talk show. This is episode 34, recorded on 04/11/2016, with the following on-air personalities: Chip DeBlock (Host), Luke Lirot (Attorney), Mark Hopper, Bobby Alsip and Dan O’Kelly. We produce two 30 minute shows each week that are normally released on our YouTube channel Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition to your host, the other panelists are active or retired law enforcement officers as well (except for Attorney Luke Lirot).
Topic 1 concerns New York Police Department Sgt. William Flores who was found not liable in the shooting death of Mauricio Jaquez by a federal jury. The shooting took place in 2009 and the family of Jaquez tried to hold New York City, NYPD officers and Sgt. Flores responsible for Excessive Force, Wrongful Death and Assault & Battery.
Topic 2 concerns Baltimore (Maryland) Police Major Byron Conaway will not be prosecuted for shooting a man who refused to obey commands to take his hands out of his pockets. Major Conaway is black and the subject is white. State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby was quoted in the story.
Topic 3 concerns former Marion County (Florida) Sheriff’s Deputy Jesse Terrell who has been acquitted of a civil rights charge in the accused beating of a black man. Former Deputy Terrell was charged with depriving the man of his civil rights by repeatedly striking, kicking and kneeing him. The other officers involved all pleaded guilty to the charges. The jury was all white and former Deputy Terrell could have faced up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.
Topic 4 concerns Los Angeles County (California) Sheriff’s Department Ex-Undersheriff Paul Tanaka facing up to 15 years in federal prison if he is found guilty of Obstruction of Justice and Conspiracy to Obstruct Justice. The story also references former LA County Sheriff Lee Baca who pled guilty to Lying to Investigators and is facing up to six months in prison. Quoted in the story is U.S. Attorney Eileen Decker and a mention that 19 members of the department have been convicted of federal crimes (including the beating of inmates, bribery and conspiracy) so far. The investigation began due to whistleblower and former Men’s Central Jail captain and LA Sheriff’s Department commander Bob Olmsted.
Topic 5 concerns the recent death and possible suicide of Cop Block contributor Adam Rupeka and his girlfriend Jennifer Ogburn in Tijuana Mexico. Both Rupeka and Ogburn have been on the run since being arrested for sexually abusing a 15-year-old-girl.
Topic 6 concerns Columbus (Ohio) Police Officer Tricia Zimmerman suing the city of Columbus and Columbus Police administrators for illegally obtaining nude photographs of her and sharing them among officers during an internal investigation. Also mentioned in the story is her boyfriend, Columbus Police Officers Jeffrey Lazar who is also suing for the search of his phone.
