Topic 1 concerns the drowning of three (3) black teenage girls in a stolen car and allegations that Pinellas County (Florida) deputies did not do enough to save their lives. After media outlets and individuals manipulating video footage to blame the sheriff’s office, Sheriff Bob Gualtieri went public in a move of transparency for his agency and accountability for his accusers. The drowned girls are Dominique Battle, Ashaunti Butler and LaNiya Miller. Reference is made to attorney Michele Whitfield, attorney Aaron O’Neal, Sgt. Howard Skaggs, the Dream Defenders civil rights organization and the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement. Quoted in this story is Advancement Project Executive Director Judith Browne Dianis

Topic 2 concerns San Francisco (California) Police Chief Greg Suhr being forced to resign by Mayor Ed Lee due to public pressure.

Topic 3 concerns Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy Tramaine McCray resigning after getting caught having sex on duty in uniform and in his patrol car. McCray also admitted that this was not the first time he had sex on duty.

Topic 4 concerns Chicago (Illinois) Police Officer Dante Servin resigning two (2) days before a hearing that would determine if he should be fired for fatally shooting Rekia Boyd while off-duty in 2012. Officer Servin was charged with involuntary manslaughter, but a judge acquitted him. The City also settled a wrongful-death lawsuit with Boyd’s family for $4.5 million in 2013.

Topic 5 concerns Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signing a bill into law allowing retired police officers to carry firearms in bars. Referenced in the story is Republican Representative Sonny Borrelli and Democratic Senator Steve Farley.

Topic 6 concerns retired St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Captain Clay Higgins running for public office. He plans to run for the Lafayette/Lake Charles-based Third Congressional seat or for the U.S. Senate in November.
