Topic 1 concerns Florida Carry Executive Director Sean Caranna and a group of others open carrying their firearms in accordance with Florida State Statute 790.25(3)(h) while fishing at Miami’s South Beach South Pointe Park Pier. Responding Miami Beach Police officers confronted them at gunpoint, handcuffed them, disarmed them and detained them for nearly 2 hours. Although not required by statute, members of the group gave police advance warning but Miami Beach Police Chief Daniel Oates denies getting such notice. Reference was made to detainees Christopher Philpot, Sean Devine, Jonah Weiss, Michael Taylor, Steven Jenkins and Carlos Gutierrez.
