Topic 1 concerns Judge Patricia S. Joyce ruling that Missouri Highway Patrol Colonel Sandra Karsten did not have the authority to fire Trooper Anthony Piercy. Trooper Piercy was fired after he arrested Brandon Ellingson for boating while intoxicated (0.268 blood-alcohol level), handcuffed him behind his back, put the wrong type life vest on him and transported him by boat at speeds up to 46 mph when Ellington was ejected from the boat and drowned. Trooper Piercy should be reinstated and receive a lesser punishment.
Topic 2 concerns the surviving family of deceased Dominique White filing a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging Topeka (Kansas) Police officers Michael Cruse and Justin Mackey fatally shot White without justification. Both officers Cruse and Mackey were cleared by their department. White was a convicted felon illegally in possession of a firearm concealed in his pant’s pocket. He refused to follow the commands of police, police became aware of the firearm, White fled from police while reaching towards the pocket concealing the gun when he was fatally shot.
Topic 3 concerns Judge Rena Marie Van Tine reversing a Cook County (Illinois) jury award of $1.05 million to the family of Quintonio LeGrier after she learned that the jury found Chicago Police Officer Robert Rialmo was in fear of his life. Innocent civilian Bettie Jones was also accidentally killed by Off. Rialmo in the incident.
