Topic 1 concerns the manslaughter case against St. Paul (Minnesota) Police Officer Jeronimo Yanez in the shooting death of Philando Castile. More specifically, this discussion considers whether or not the earlier release of his dashcam video footage would have prevented him from being charged with manslaughter and other crimes (of which he was ultimately acquitted by a jury). Also discussed is the City of St. Anthony offering Off. Yanez a “voluntary separation agreement” because they stated “The City of St. Anthony has concluded that the public will be best served if Officer Yanez is no longer a police officer in our city,… The city intends to offer Officer Yanez a voluntary separation agreement to help him transition to another career other than being a St. Anthony officer.”
